Frank Strada, Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Correction, stated that his resignation is “in the best interests” of the state and described the ongoing investigation into the incident as “entirely appropriate and necessary”.
Christa Pike was sentenced to death in 1996 for murdering Colleen Slemmer. After surviving two lethal injections, she is now critically ill in a Tennessee hospital, where her lawyers are trying to have her sentence commuted.
