    Who We Are

What Sierra Leone Today actually is, and why we built it this way.

Here’s something that used to drive me quietly mad. You’d want to follow what was happening in Sierra Leone, whether you live there, grew up there, have family there, or just care about the place, and you’d end up with seventeen browser tabs open, half of them not loading, one asking you to disable your ad blocker, and another that hadn’t been updated since the previous Thursday.
That’s the problem Sierra Leone Today is here to fix.

So what is this site, exactly?

We’re a news aggregator and source news from local Sierra Leonean outlets, continental African, and international feeds to present everything in one place. Think of us as the person who woke up early, read everything, and laid it out on the table for you. The journalists from dozens of other outlets did the reporting, and they deserve the credit. What we do is make sure their work actually reaches you and drive more traffic to their platforms.
Sierra Leone Today also brings together original articles, opinion and features written from personal experience of living in Sierra Leone. Some of our news content comes from other publishers and is clearly attributed to its original source. Our opinion, blog and feature articles are written for Sierra Leone Today and reflect the author’s own views and experiences.

    Why Sierra Leone specifically?

Because coverage of Sierra Leone is scattered. International outlets cover the country roughly once every eighteen months, usually for a reason nobody wanted. Local coverage exists, but it’s spread across sites with varying update schedules and varying willingness to load on a slow connection.
Sierra Leone has a diaspora across the UK, the US, Europe and beyond who want to know about the elections, the economy, the football, the flooding season, the price of rice, and what’s actually going on beyond the government’s latest pronouncement. We’ve lived here long enough to know the country is far more interesting and complex than most outside coverage suggests.

And the Africa and world news?

Because nothing happens in isolation. Regional trade decisions, continental health alerts, global commodity prices: these things matter in Sierra Leone too. When something happening elsewhere genuinely affects people here or across the West African region, you’ll find it alongside everything else.

    Who’s curating all of this?

People who know the difference between a story that matters and a press release with a pulse. We’re not perfect, we miss things, and some stories slip through. But we’re paying attention, which is more than most aggregators can honestly say about any specific country. We always link back to the original source, because credit should go where it belongs.

    One more thing

If you’re a Sierra Leonean journalist or outlet and you’d like your work included in our feeds, get in touch. The whole point is to get good Sierra Leonean reporting in front of more people.
    Thanks for being here.
