During the meeting, they discussed the judicial priorities for 2026/27 and explored ways to strengthen cooperation in promoting the rule of law and justice administration. The High Commissioner congratulated Justice Kamanda on the ongoing reforms and highlighted the significant progress made.

Key topics included the Judiciary’s strategic goals for the coming year, support from the UK-Sierra Leone Pro Bono Network, and how the UK can assist in expanding access to justice and reinforcing judicial independence.

Commissioner Gauld also expressed her gratitude for attending the recent Judicial Thanksgiving Service at Saint George’s Cathedral, which both officials noted was a meaningful event reinforcing the Judiciary’s public role.

Chief Justice Kamanda thanked the High Commissioner for her ongoing support and reiterated his commitment to reforms aimed at enhancing court efficiency, transparency, and fairness. He appreciates the collaboration and technical help that will strengthen judicial administration across Sierra Leone, emphasising the importance of partnerships in building a resilient justice sector.

This engagement underscores the ongoing partnership between Sierra Leone and the UK in fostering a strong and accessible justice system. Both parties expressed eagerness to maintain dialogue and work together to improve institutional capacity, increase pro bono legal services, and uphold the rule of law for the benefit of Sierra Leone’s citizens.
