The Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA) has launched the eighth intake of its CAF ‘D’ Diploma Coaching Course aimed at enhancing football coaching skills in the country. The training commenced at the SLFA Secretariat in Kingtom, Freetown, with 35 participants from various regions of Sierra Leone taking part.
This course is part of the SLFA’s ongoing efforts to elevate coaching standards and cultivate a new generation of qualified football coaches in line with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) criteria.
At the opening ceremony, SLFA Technical Director John Edward Keister emphasised that coaching development is a continuous journey, highlighting the need to recognise and improve on organisational skills, techniques, and coaching education. He noted that the programme aims to provide grassroots coaches with essential knowledge and skills to identify and develop football talent from local communities to elite levels.
Keister stated, “The aim of this course is to equip our grassroots coaches with the fundamentals of coaching, build their competence, and ensure they are better prepared to nurture talents from the community level to the elite level.”
This latest course marks the eighth edition of the CAF ‘D’ Diploma, offering local coaches further opportunities for enhancing their expertise. Over the week, participants will engage in both theoretical and practical training, including internships, to acquire coaching methodologies that will aid their professional growth and support football development in Sierra Leone.
