Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed his condolences on Wednesday following the death of Reuben Fasoranti, the National Leader of Afenifere, who passed away at the age of 100.
Akpabio praised Fasoranti as a patriot and elder statesman, stating that his legacy of service and integrity would inspire future generations. He emphasised that Fasoranti’s contributions significantly impacted Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, democratic governance, and the quest for justice.
In a statement from his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, Akpabio noted that Fasoranti represented a generation committed to the common good, guided by strong convictions. He highlighted that Fasoranti’s legacy crossed ethnic and political lines, exemplifying the importance of principled leadership and constructive engagement.
Describing Fasoranti as a rare elder statesman whose life reflected wisdom and conviction, Akpabio lamented the loss to both the Fasoranti family and the wider Nigerian community. He reiterated that true leadership is measured not by titles but by the values upheld and the positive impact made on society.
Akpabio extended his sympathies to the Fasoranti family, members of Afenifere, the people of Akure, the Ondo State Government, and the Yoruba nation. He encouraged the bereaved to find comfort in Fasoranti’s long, impactful life and prayed for strength for the family during this difficult time.
“May the memory of Pa Reuben Fasoranti continue to inspire us and remind us of our shared responsibility to build a just, united, and prosperous Nigeria,” Akpabio concluded.
