Geita Gold Mining Limited Commits to Community Development
Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) has reiterated its dedication to enhancing social services through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and sponsorship efforts.
During a forum at the Ninth National Mining Technology Exhibition on 1st October 2026, GGML’s Director of Development and Relations, Mr Gilbert Mworia, highlighted the company’s initiatives. He noted that GGML allocates 9.2 billion shillings annually for CSR activities focused on education, health, transport, and water sectors in Geita District and Municipal Councils.
Beyond its CSR programme, GGML invests an average of 13 to 15 billion shillings each year to support various institutions, organisations, and individuals. Mr Mworia explained that these efforts reflect GGML’s obligation as an investor to reinforce community acceptance and ensure a stable operating environment.
The company has partnered with the Jakaya Kikwete Cardiac Institute to aid children with heart conditions under a three-year agreement. GGML also operates a medical services vessel, delivering healthcare to residents on ten islands in Lake Victoria, particularly in Geita, Mwanza, and Kagera regions.
Mr Mworia stated that GGML has constructed over 1,000 classrooms and more than 150 health centres and dispensaries, and has significantly improved hospitals. He emphasised that the company’s contributions extend to fostering the local economy through investments, job creation, and the procurement of local goods and services.
GGML’s Procurement Officer, Mr Silas Shija, remarked that the mining activities also provide valuable opportunities for local traders. He encouraged Tanzanian entrepreneurs to prepare and meet legal standards to take advantage of employment and tender opportunities from GGML.
Dr Elfasi Msenya, Assistant Regional Administrative Secretary for Economy and Production, called on GGML to collaborate further with government institutions, including insurance and social security companies, to ensure social security for its employees.
