DAR ES SALAAM: Prime Minister Mwigulu Nchemba met with representatives of bus and truck drivers in Tanzania to address ongoing issues in the transport sector, resulting in a two-day strike being suspended.
The meeting took place on 30 September 2026 at the Prime Minister’s Office in Oysterbay, Dar es Salaam. After discussions, driver leaders agreed to resume both passenger and cargo transport services, thereby restoring normal transportation operations.
This resolution came about after the government showed a willingness to listen to drivers’ concerns and promised to address them through proper channels.
The strike, which began on 29 September 2026, had disrupted services in various regions, leaving many passengers stranded and hindering commercial activities.
Both sides committed to ongoing discussions regarding the challenges faced by drivers, with the government pledging to consider these issues appropriately.
