The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) has ordered Musa Tarawally to stop using the party’s logo or claiming affiliation with the SLPP, following confirmation from the Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) that he remains a member.
This directive was issued in a letter dated 17 September 2026 from SLPP National Chairman Jimmy Batilo Songa, which was also sent to prominent party officials and leaders of various political parties.
The SLPP sought clarification on Tarawally’s membership from the CDP, whose Secretary General confirmed on 3 September that Tarawally is still with them. This is significant, as he was the CDP’s candidate in the 2018 presidential election, a fact also supported by independent electoral records.
Citing Article 6(3a) of the SLPP Constitution, Songa instructed Tarawally to refrain from any actions that might suggest he is representing the SLPP in any capacity. The letter also indicated that a public statement would be released to update party members and the public regarding Tarawally’s status and to advise against engaging with him as an SLPP member.
Despite this, Tarawally has recently been presenting himself as a potential SLPP flagbearer for the upcoming 2028 presidential election, creating a conflict with the CDP’s position affirming his membership in their party.
