The Citizens Democratic Party (CDP) has confirmed that Alhaji Musa Tarawally, who is known as a flagbearer aspirant for the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), remains a member of the CDP and has not formally resigned.
This confirmation comes from a letter dated 3rd September 2026, directed to the SLPP’s National Chairman. The letter, signed by CDP National Secretary General Ibrahim Sorie Sesay, responds to questions about Tarawally’s party membership.
According to the CDP, Tarawally, who was the party’s presidential candidate in the 2018 elections, has not submitted any resignation and has taken no official steps to leave since joining the party that same year.
The CDP clarified this to ensure the SLPP and the Political Parties Regulation Commission (PPRC) have accurate information about Tarawally’s status.
The clarification is particularly relevant as Tarawally has been publicly presenting himself as an SLPP flagbearer aspirant in advance of the party’s selection process for the 2028 presidential election. Recent reports have identified him as an SLPP aspirant.
The CDP’s letter also noted that it is willing to provide more information or documentation if necessary. The situation highlights tensions over Tarawally’s status, especially as the SLPP has instructed him to refrain from using its logo and identify himself as an SLPP member.
Thus, the focus remains on Tarawally’s current membership and his affiliation with the SLPP, while the CDP insists he is still a member of their party.
