Peace Ambassador Abubakarr S. Turay, known as Shady Baby, has revealed that there was no formal handover ceremony when he took on the role of Peace Ambassador. He described his relationships with his predecessors and colleagues in the entertainment sector as friendly.
In a recent interview, Turay mentioned his good rapport with Alhaji Amadu Bah, also known as Boss La or LAJ, and Kao Denero. He confirmed that he had congratulated one of them on a recent appointment and emphasised that their relationships remain intact.
Turay also spoke about recent interactions with “Ellie” and “LAJ.” He noted that his last chat with Ellie occurred several months ago. Unfortunately, invitations from LAJ to commemorate his birthday did not materialise due to travel and scheduling conflicts, which Turay hopes LAJ will understand.
Reflecting on his appointment, Turay acknowledged his predecessor for willingly stepping aside, noting that transitions can become challenging if individuals are reluctant to yield their positions, which can lead to institutional issues.
Turay was appointed Peace Ambassador by President Julius Maada Bio on April 30, 2026, succeeding LAJ, who held the position since February 2024. This appointment was confirmed in a State House announcement signed by Secretary to the President Barba B. Fortune.
Following his appointment, LAJ publicly congratulated Turay and expressed gratitude to President Bio for his time in office. Since taking up his new role, Shady Baby has initiated efforts to foster collaboration on peacebuilding and national unity, including a courtesy visit to the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion in June.
