The Western Area Football Association (WAFA) has suspended the COFA League indefinitely due to violent incidents linked to a match on Saturday between Kossoh Tong and Krootown Road.
The suspension takes effect immediately, following escalated violence on Sunday, 13 September 2026, in Krootown Road, which resulted in casualties and property damage.
WAFA condemned the events as a serious threat to football, public safety, and order, stressing that the sport must not become a venue for violence or retaliation.
The Association has pledged to conduct a thorough investigation into the incidents and will implement necessary regulatory and disciplinary actions based on its findings.
While WAFA acknowledged COFA’s postponement of the match between Kossoh Tong and Fourah Bay, it stated that this alone was not adequate given the severity of the situation. Consequently, WAFA has instructed that no COFA fixtures take place until further notice.
The football authority has called for calm and restraint from players, clubs, supporters, and community members as investigations proceed, emphasising that the safety of individuals must take precedence over football.
