The Pentecostal Fellowship of Sierra Leone (PFSL) has mediated peace talks between the family of the late journalist Aminata Bangura, known as the “Gen Z Reporter,” and Apostle Amos Lawrence Lelleh, General Overseer of Gate Way Evangelical Ministry. This followed a disagreement over comments made during her funeral service.
The reconciliation meeting took place on Friday, 11 September 2026, at the office of PFSL President, Bishop Akintayo Sam-Jolly, who was accompanied by the Fellowship’s executive and an advisory member.
Concerns from the bereaved family were triggered by a sermon delivered by Apostle Lelleh, which they found inappropriate and upsetting during their time of mourning. In response, Bishop Sam-Jolly invited both parties to discuss the issues and work towards a resolution.
Representatives from both sides accepted the invitation and engaged in discussions facilitated by PFSL leadership. According to a statement from PFSL General Secretary Pastor Favour S. Nyuma, the meeting was constructive, allowing both parties to express their views and reach an understanding.
The PFSL reported that both sides appreciated the Bishop’s mediation and were keen to move past the disagreement. At the end of the meeting, Bishop Sam-Jolly prayed for the grieving family and took photos with the parties involved as a sign of reconciliation.
He urged the public to remain calm and avoid escalating tensions or further upsetting the family. Emphasising the need for compassion and peaceful dialogue, Bishop Sam-Jolly asked those discussing the matter to refrain from remarks that could reignite conflict.
With both sides ready to move forward, the PFSL highlighted the importance of healing and respecting Aminata Bangura’s memory.
