Ali Suma, the outgoing Chairman of the All People’s Congress (APC) in Port Loko, has issued an apology to party supporters upset by his decision to seek legal clarity on the extension of the party’s executive tenure.
Suma explained that he aimed to obtain a definitive legal interpretation regarding the tenure extension but recognised his actions had heightened tensions within the party. “I am apologising to the APC members who are unhappy with me,” he stated, confirming he had asked his lawyer to withdraw the case from court.
His legal challenge had drawn considerable attention amid ongoing disputes over the executive’s mandate extension. Although Suma initially filed papers against the tenure extension, a High Court injunction issued on August 27, 2026, was granted following an ex parte application from Alfred Peter Conteh and Hon. Mohamed Sheridan Kamara.
With Suma’s withdrawal of the case, it is anticipated that some legal and internal tensions within the opposition party will ease as it continues to navigate concerns about its leadership and governance.
