Sierra Leone has launched Flot, a fintech platform aimed at enhancing access to modern financial services and global opportunities for its citizens. The official unveiling took place on Saturday, 12 September 2026, at Country Lodge in Freetown, attended by government officials, financial institutions, technology partners, and business leaders.
Flot features a Visa-powered card that facilitates secure international payments and travel, reducing the need for cash and easing foreign currency exchange for travellers. First Lady Fatima Bio highlighted the platform’s innovative approach, celebrating its potential to benefit students, entrepreneurs, and professionals with cross-border financial needs.
Communications Minister Salima Mormorna Bah stressed the government’s commitment to fostering a technology-friendly environment for startups. She announced plans for a Startup Act and an Innovation Investment Fund to support emerging businesses and strengthen Sierra Leone’s fintech sector.
Flot CEO David Kpakima noted the platform’s rapid development, which took less than six months, significantly shorter than the industry average. He outlined plans for expansion, connecting banks and mobile operators across Africa, while aiming to improve international travel connections.
Other officials pointed to the importance of sound governance and investment policies to foster innovation. Zenith Bank’s Managing Director endorsed Flot’s launch as a step towards a cashless society, while a Visa representative expressed commitment to supporting Sierra Leone’s growth.
The launch marks a pivotal moment for Sierra Leone’s fintech landscape, with stakeholders optimistic about Flot’s role in promoting financial inclusion and digital transformation.
