Dodoma: Major Milestone as President Samia Suluhu Hassan Inaugurates Government City
President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially inaugurated government ministry buildings, asphalt roads, and vital infrastructure at the new Government City in Mtumba, Dodoma. This marks a significant step in Tanzania’s efforts to centralise its government operations in the capital.
During the ceremony, President Samia highlighted that developing the Government City is part of a long-term vision to establish Dodoma as Tanzania’s administrative hub and to bring services closer to citizens. She explained that the move to relocate the government headquarters was based on Dodoma’s central location, making it accessible to people from across the country.
The President noted ongoing investments in the city, which include constructing permanent multi-storey office buildings and modern road networks to support various ministries and government institutions. She emphasised that the project was funded through domestic resources, demonstrating Tanzania’s capability to invest in its own development.
President Samia also pointed out the role of advanced technology in the new buildings, saying integrated digital systems would enhance coordination among government entities, streamline administrative processes, and reduce bureaucracy in public service delivery. These systems are expected to facilitate information sharing, minimising the repetitive submission of documents by citizens to different offices.
She called for the proper maintenance of the new buildings and infrastructure, urging relevant authorities to safeguard green spaces and uphold cleanliness to maintain the city’s aesthetic appeal. The President instructed government ministries to adhere to the Dodoma City Master Plan for 2019–2032, warning against unplanned construction and encroachment on areas reserved for public services, roads, and open spaces.
Furthermore, she stressed the need for improved essential services, including reliable electricity, clean water, healthcare, education, and road infrastructure, as Dodoma’s development must reflect its status as the national capital.
Recognising the role of the private sector, President Samia directed the Ministry responsible for Planning and Investment to enhance efforts to attract investors and promote public-private partnerships in Dodoma’s development. She noted that the expansion of Government City is creating new economic opportunities, evidenced by increased construction of residential and commercial properties.
In concluding her address, she urged public servants in the new offices to exhibit greater commitment, efficiency, and professionalism in serving the public. The inauguration was also attended by the President of Angola and various other government officials and invited guests.
