DAR ES SALAAM: Vice President Deogratius Ndejembi has instructed the Ministry of Energy to work with the Petroleum Upstream Regulatory Authority (PURA) on a strategic plan aimed at enhancing the capabilities of young Tanzanians and local companies to engage actively in oil and gas projects.
Ndejembi’s directive was announced on 28 October 2026 during a licence signing ceremony for oil and gas exploration in Dar es Salaam.
At the event, he highlighted the work of Mwizegwa Rusibamanyila, a young entrepreneur who returned to Tanzania from abroad to set up a company operating in the Mnazi Bay gas block in the Mtwara Region. His company has created over 50 jobs for Tanzanians, with 80% of employees hailing from a nearby village. Notably, one young woman, initially hired while still a student, has successfully progressed to a supervisory role after receiving support to further her education.
“If the local content unit is managed effectively, we can nurture many more entrepreneurs like Rusibamanyila, who will employ fellow Tanzanians in the oil and gas sector,” Ndejembi stated.
He emphasised the need to start equipping young people with the skills required for these industries now, ahead of significant projects like the Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) project in Lindi Region. This approach would enable Tanzanians to take on roles as professionals, service providers, and suppliers.
Ndejembi also recommended that the Energy Minister create a special award to honour Rusibamanyila for his notable contributions to the industry.
