The military has intensified operations across Northern Nigeria to restore peace permanently, according to Daily Trust. During recent actions, troops rescued over 70 kidnapping victims and detained a notorious terrorist leader.
General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff, affirmed his commitment to ensuring a safe environment in Northern Nigeria. He stated that terrorists are being squeezed from all directions through sustained military pressure.
Major-General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Media Operations, explained that these operations have spanned various regions in the country. Troops have rescued numerous victims, confiscated weapons and ammunition, and arrested suspected collaborators while maintaining pressure on terrorist groups.
In particular, 27 villagers were rescued in the Gamji community of Katsina State, and 29 farmers were saved in Niger State’s Mariga Local Government Area. In Katsina, troops responded to a distress signal on 16 October, defeating the abductors and freeing the captives, who were then handed back to their village head.
In Kano State, troops traced kidnappers from Fanyabo village, neutralising two suspects and rescuing one victim, while recovering ₦10 million believed to be ransom money.
The military also achieved significant successes in Yobe and Borno States, confiscating firearms and ammunition during operations conducted from 16 to 18 October. Efforts continue to rescue additional victims still held by terrorists.
Moreover, in Kaduna, Katsina, and Zamfara States, troops from the Joint Task Force Operation FANSAN YAMMA eliminated eight suspected terrorists and rescued three kidnapping victims during coordinated actions on 24 October. These operations resulted in the recovery of firearms, motorcycles, and other weapons.
General Oluyede praised the troops for their dedication and urged them to maintain their efforts while respecting human rights and avoiding complacency. He called upon community leaders and the public to provide information on security threats and assist in the military’s mission to restore safety across the region.
