Messi reached the city around 1pm, accompanied by his wife, Antonela Roccuzzo. He was greeted by Teresa Sanjurjo, director of the Princess of Asturias Foundation, amid cheers and the sound of bagpipes. The Inter Miami player took time to engage with fans, signing shirts and photographs.
The anticipation for his visit is evident, with tickets for Messi’s meeting with young people at Oviedo’s Palacio de los Deportes selling out in just 13 minutes. The awards ceremony will be held at the Teatro Campoamor.
Messi has amassed 47 titles in his career and has been awarded the Princess of Asturias Award to recognise his sporting achievements and dedication to children’s issues. The jury commended his talent, career, and charitable work aimed at improving access to education and healthcare for disadvantaged children.
