The University of Calabar has denied the existence of an impostor calling himself “Prof. Odong,” who is accused of defrauding students by claiming he can improve their exam results.
In a statement, the university’s Public Relations Unit confirmed that the Security Department found no record of a staff member by that name in the Information and Communication Technology unit.
The suspect reportedly contacts students using the phone number 08144115929, claiming their exam results are poor and demanding money for assistance. Preliminary investigations suggest he operates from the Iseyin Local Government Area in Oyo State.
The university has urged students to ignore any communications from this individual and to avoid sharing personal or exam details or making payments to anyone who claims to influence their results.
“The management has zero tolerance for all forms of unethical practice and will take strong action against anyone found culpable,” the statement added.
Students who have been approached by the suspect are encouraged to report the incidents to the appropriate authorities promptly. The university reiterated its commitment to safeguarding its students and maintaining the integrity of its academic processes.
