Tanzania and Oman have taken significant steps to enhance their diplomatic and economic relations with the first Bilateral Consultations Meeting since the Political Consultations Agreement was signed in 2009. The meeting took place in Muscat, Oman, on 28 September 2026, led by Oman’s Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Khalifa Al-Harthy.
Both nations aim to strengthen their long-standing friendship by capitalising on their strategic positions as key gateways for trade between Africa and the Gulf. Tanzania’s Deputy Minister for Industry and Trade, Dennis Londo, highlighted that the discussions were a crucial step towards turning the goodwill between the countries into practical outcomes.
Londo expressed gratitude for Oman’s ongoing investments in Tanzania and encouraged the Oman Investment Authority (OIA) to seek opportunities in sectors such as processing industries, natural gas, and mining. The OIA has shown interest in engaging with Tanzania through commercial partnerships and public-private projects.
The consultations also focused on increasing exchanges of leaders and experts to facilitate knowledge sharing and enhance the implementation of bilateral agreements. Key areas of cooperation discussed included trade and investment, agriculture, health, education, the blue economy, employment, tourism, and cultural heritage.
This meeting signals a shift in Tanzania-Oman relations, moving towards stronger trade cooperation and investment opportunities that will benefit the citizens of both nations. The collaboration is expected to support Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050 and Oman Vision 2040.
