South African Foreign Minister Ronald Lamola has condemned the United States’ plan to resettle up to 17,500 White South Africans, labelling it as “a race-based policy” and referring to claims of a “genocide” against Afrikaners as “fake news.” He made these remarks during an interview with FRANCE 24 at the UN General Assembly in New York.
Lamola clarified that Pretoria would “not interfere” with the US initiative. He also affirmed South Africa’s commitment to its genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice concerning the conflict in Gaza, despite pressure from the Trump administration to withdraw the case.
Additionally, he dismissed Nigeria’s accusations regarding recent anti-foreigner violence in South Africa, calling them a “very unfortunate characterisation.” Lamola stated that the violence was not state-sponsored but rather the result of “vigilante groups.”
