    Takes just a few seconds

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has dismissed suggestions that the government delayed announcing the OpenAI breach for political gain, calling such claims “nonsense.” Speaking to Sky News, he stated that he learned of the incident while in New York and that the government acted as quickly as possible upon receiving the information.

“It’s just nonsense. We were informed of this late,” he said. Albanese confirmed that the critical details were released “absolutely” as soon as they were known and emphasised the unique circumstances of the situation, which required the government to verify the facts before making a public statement urgently.

He also mentioned that he had appropriately briefed the opposition, criticising Angus Taylor for his remarks and stating he needed to act more responsibly as a leader of an alternative government.

    Criticism of Albanese’s UN Trip

Meanwhile, opposition spokesman Angus Taylor accused Albanese of neglecting domestic issues while attending the UN summit, stating, “Australians are suffering… instead of looking at the pain that Australians are feeling at the bowser.” He called for immediate action to lower fuel prices in Australia.

AI Hack Highlighted in UN Address

Albanese addressed the AI breach during his UN speech, reiterating the need for stronger regulations in artificial intelligence. He stressed that while AI has the potential to improve lives and productivity, it brings significant risks that must be managed.

“This is unacceptable… Australia has been leading the way in establishing standards for AI to ensure it benefits people,” he remarked, calling for international cooperation to shape AI development proactively.

    NSW Police Mourning Officer’s Death

In unrelated news, a police officer, Constable Mia Lay, has died following a crash in Sydney’s Redfern while responding to reports of a stolen vehicle. The incident occurred in the early hours of Friday when the police car, using lights and sirens, crashed into a tree. The police commissioner has expressed condolences and committed to a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic event, aiming to improve the safety of officers responding to emergencies.

    Changes in NSW Rental Regulations

New laws in New South Wales will ease the rental application process for tenants, who will only need to provide their driver’s licence and passport when signing a lease. The legislation also mandates the use of a standardised application form and requires landlords to disclose if property images have been digitally altered, addressing issues of transparency in the rental market.

These reforms aim to protect renters from excessive data collection and enhance the fairness of the rental process, reflecting the government’s commitment to ethical use of technology.
