The Sierra Leone Maritime Administration (SLMA) has donated 15 motorbikes to Maritime Traffic Overseers, Regional Managers, and Dispatch Riders to enhance mobility and improve operations across the country.
The handover took place on Thursday, 17 September 2026, and aims to bolster maritime monitoring, inspections, and stakeholder engagement. This initiative is particularly significant for districts and remote communities, ensuring quicker responses to maritime-related issues.
Dr. Daniel B. Kaitibi, SLMA Executive Director, emphasised that the motorbikes are vital tools that will help officers perform their duties more effectively. He urged the recipients to utilise the motorbikes responsibly and maintain them properly.
Ibrahim Sorie Kamara, Regional Manager for the Western Area Urban, acknowledged the challenges faced by officers in reaching communities lacking adequate transport. He pointed out that the new motorbikes would alleviate some operational difficulties, especially during spot checks in hard-to-reach areas.
The SLMA stated that this initiative reflects its commitment to equipping field personnel with essential resources to fulfil their responsibilities effectively across the country.
