The President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Babadi Kamara, and the SLFA Executive Committee, marked the commencement of a new 435-seater pavilion at the SLFA Academy Field in Kingtom, Freetown, on Friday, 22 May 2026. The project, valued at over $250,000, is fully funded by Kamara to enhance football infrastructure in Sierra Leone.
According to an official SLFA announcement, the pavilion will offer improved safety, comfort, and dignity for fans attending matches and related activities at the academy field.
Several prominent sports figures were present at the ceremony, including Minister of Sports Augusta James Teima, Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Sports Rachel Pessima, National Sports Authority Executive Director Mohamed Alphaka Conteh, and SLFA Vice President Alie Badara Tarawallie.
Conteh praised Kamara’s leadership and the Executive’s commitment to football development, saying the new pavilion would modernise the academy field and strengthen its significance as a sporting venue.
Minister Teima also commended the SLFA’s progress and urged other sports leaders to learn from Kamara’s example. “Collaboration is key to making the game better and more accessible,” she added.
Kamara, who became SLFA President in August 2025, announced that the pavilion is part of a wider infrastructure development strategy. He revealed plans for a new SLFA headquarters, which is set to be officially opened in October.
Additionally, Kamara confirmed that FIFA has approved the construction of two new football pitches at Albert Academy School in Freetown and The Bo School in Bo as part of the FIFA Arena Project, aimed at improving access to quality facilities at schools.
