President Donald Trump’s team opted for dinner from The Cheesecake Factory on a dismal election night, seemingly a jibe at Barack Obama’s recent remarks about White House decor. While campaigning for Democratic candidates, Obama had quipped that Trump made the White House resemble a Cheesecake Factory under Saddam Hussein.
As election results trickled in, some White House officials gathered in the East Room for a viewing event, while others chose to order from the restaurant. Trump aims to retain control of Congress, needing the Democrats to flip four Senate seats and three House seats to gain a majority. Initial results have shown some Democratic victories, including Jon Ossoff maintaining his Senate seat in Georgia and Roy Cooper winning a Senate seat in North Carolina.
MAGA supporters expressed outrage at what they perceived as an elitist swipe from Obama regarding a restaurant chain that many Americans view as upscale. Obama dismissed the backlash, noting he had frequented The Cheesecake Factory for nearly ten years while raising his daughters.
Marin Richardson, CEO of Disrupt PR, remarked that the feud over the restaurant benefits the chain, stating, “Both sides are fighting over who loves it more. Most brands would pay a fortune for that.”
While Trump’s staff enjoyed their meals, the President took to Truth Social to criticise Fox News, claiming the network’s polls are insulting. He stated that the Fox News Voter Poll indicated 56% of voters consider him not a strong leader, while only 44% did. Regarding the country’s direction, 38% reported feeling angry and 37% dissatisfied.
Trump continued to rail against Fox News’ coverage, attributing its plummeting ratings to focus on what he calls “the Trump Deranged Dumocrats.” He insisted that his own numbers were at an all-time high.
