Uganda has begun the withdrawal of its troops from a peacekeeping mission in Somalia, coinciding with the United Nations concluding its political mission in the country. The decision reflects Uganda’s shift in focus after nearly two decades of military involvement in Somalia, aimed at stabilising the region amid ongoing security challenges.
This troop reduction comes just as South Africa prepares for municipal elections, which may deepen the fragmentation in its political landscape. In Chad, another pressing issue is the severe drought that could be the worst the country has faced in over 40 years.
The developments were highlighted in the latest edition of “Eye on Africa,” with reports including the implications of Uganda’s troop withdrawal and the broader impact of these challenges on regional stability.
