The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation is promoting public awareness of the Draft Constitution for the East African Community (EAC) Political Confederation in Mtwara Region. This initiative aims to enhance understanding and encourage citizen participation in regional integration.
The event took place today, 2 November 2026, and was launched by Newala District Commissioner Musa Ramadhani Sima, standing in for Mtwara Regional Commissioner Colonel Donald Msengi. Attendees included government officials, private sector representatives, religious groups, civil society organisations, youth, women, and special interest groups.
Participants learned about the principles and objectives of the EAC Political Confederation and the upcoming stages of the draft Constitution process. This knowledge will help them submit their views and recommendations effectively.
The public awareness campaign is designed to foster a greater understanding of the Political Confederation’s role in enhancing cooperation among EAC Partner States. It also allows various social groups to contribute ideas that will inform future steps in the process.
This initiative is part of the Tanzanian government’s commitment to ensuring that citizens are actively involved in establishing the East African Political Confederation.
