Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes’ home in Cheshire was burgled on the evening of October 21 while he was in Italy for a match against Como.
The break-in occurred shortly after Fernandes left for the game, and his family were not at home at the time. According to Cheshire Police, the intruders were in the house for less than five minutes before officers arrived, following reports of suspicious activity from a neighbour who spotted three unknown men in a nearby garden.
While police confirmed that a burglary took place, they refrained from commenting on the identity of the victim. Detective Inspector David Jarvis from Macclesfield Proactive CID stated that the investigation is in its early stages and they are determined to find those responsible.
Manchester United is reportedly supporting Fernandes following the incident. This burglary adds to a troubling trend of footballers’ homes being targeted while they are away with their teams. Earlier this year, Manchester City player Ruben Dias and his former partner Maya Jama experienced a similar break-in while Dias was attending a Champions League match. Other footballers in the area, including Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, and Riyad Mahrez, have also been victims of burglaries.
On the pitch, United suffered a 4-1 defeat to Como on Wednesday evening.
