A pro-Tinubu group, the Asiwaju Media Team, has called on political stakeholders to concentrate on issue-based campaigns as the 2027 general elections approach. They warned they would confront what they deem false information about President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued on Monday by their Director-General, Prince Emorioloye Owolemi, the group instructed its members in Ondo State to increase media engagement in support of Tinubu, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The statement, titled “Official Statement on Media Engagement, Constructive Criticism, and Protection of Constituted Authorities,” emphasised that the group would respond to misinformation and challenge any damaging publications or statements aimed at the party and its leaders.
Owolemi stated, “I have directed members of the Asiwaju Media Team across Nigeria, particularly in Ondo State, to intensify constructive media engagements, respond to misinformation, and challenge any statements against our party, President Tinubu, and the governor as necessary. Our team will continue to defend the APC, Tinubu, Aiyedatiwa, and other authorities against misinformation and unfounded allegations.”
He also mentioned that any publications with credible evidence of threats or incitement to violence would be compiled and reported to law enforcement for further investigation.
“Where publications contain credible evidence of threats or incitement to violence that may breach Nigerian law, they will be referred to the appropriate security or law enforcement agencies for investigation and potential prosecution,” he added.
The group recognised the importance of freedom of expression and constructive criticism, asserting that these rights should be respected regardless of political affiliation.
