Dr Sengeh, who studied Biomedical Engineering at Harvard, graduated with honours in 2010. His academic focus on aerosolised tuberculosis vaccines highlighted his commitment to addressing urgent global health challenges. He went on to earn a Master’s degree in 2012, concentrating on prosthetic design, and a PhD in 2016 with research on prosthetic sockets.

Throughout his career, Dr Sengeh has published extensively and holds multiple patents in biomechanics and digital systems, which demonstrate his ability to turn theoretical research into practical technology. His work has included contributions to esteemed publications and an upcoming book, “Radical Inclusion,” set for release in 2023.

Before becoming Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr Sengeh held various research roles, including at IBM Research Africa, where he led healthcare innovations. His return to Sierra Leone has enriched public service, with roles such as Chief Innovation Officer in the Directorate of Science, Technology and Innovation and Minister of Basic and Senior Secondary Education.

Renowned for his engagement with youth, Dr Sengeh employs modern communication methods to connect with citizens, often addressing their concerns directly through social media. This participatory style is reshaping expectations of government interaction and inspiring young people to view public office as a means of driving change.

His story resonates deeply in a nation where youth represent a significant portion of the population. By proving that technical expertise and public service can align, Dr Sengeh serves as a role model, reinforcing President Bio’s vision for young Sierra Leoneans as agents of change. His leadership embodies the message that dedication and expertise can lead to substantial influence in the community, inspiring others to follow in his footsteps.
