The National Revenue Authority’s Commissioner General, Mr Abu Martin Kanneh, recently launched an internal tour of the Customs Services Department at the Customs House in Cline Town, Freetown. This initiative aims to engage with frontline staff, bolster team spirit, and enhance collaboration to advance the Authority’s revenue mobilisation goals.
Mr Kanneh, who began his career in Customs before rising to Commissioner of Customs, emphasised his comprehensive understanding of the department’s vital role in national revenue collection. “I know the work you are doing. I want us to work together to achieve the NRA’s mandate,” he told the Customs personnel, describing the tour as a chance to listen and energise collective efforts.
He highlighted the Ministry of Finance’s pressing need for increased revenue, urging Customs staff to ramp up their efforts to meet national fiscal targets. “We need to collect more revenue than ever,” he stated, calling on staff to join him in this endeavour.
Deputy Commissioner General I, Mrs Ann-Marie Baby Harding, emphasised the importance of discipline, professionalism, and adherence to the law, insisting there was no room for unprofessional conduct. Deputy Commissioner General II, Ing. Edmond Benjamin Nonie, encouraged staff to focus on delivering tangible results and assured them that he is available for support, saying, “My door is open.”
Commissioner of Customs Services, Mr Tennyson Bio, pledged the department’s support for Mr Kanneh’s objectives and urged staff to back the Commissioner General in implementing reforms to improve revenue performance.
This engagement reinforced the Customs Department’s significance within the NRA’s revenue strategy and established expectations for increased accountability and results in the future.
