The Allied People’s Movement (APM) aims for its presidential candidate, Seyi Makinde, to secure 68 million votes in the 2027 election, representing two-thirds of Nigeria’s 103 million registered voters.
At the campaign committee’s launch in Abuja on Tuesday, Makinde, represented by his running mate Lawal Daura, emphasised the APM’s commitment to engaging in legitimate campaigning to gain majority support.
Felix Hyat, Director General of the National Campaign Management Committee, stated that Makinde’s presidency would allow the South to complete its eight-year tenure, making the upcoming election a pivotal moment for the nation’s direction.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) revealed that Lagos, Kano, and Kaduna have the highest number of registered voters as the country prepares for the 2027 elections. INEC Chairman, Prof Joash Amupitan, reported over 103 million registered voters after completing the Continuous Voter Registration process. Lagos leads with 7,488,633 eligible voters, followed by Kano and Kaduna.
Makinde stated the campaign would abide by the Electoral Act of 2026. He aims to win at least two-thirds of the votes, expressing confidence in the APM’s integrity and commitment to ensuring a successful campaign free from deceit. “Our campaign will be about Resetting Nigeria,” he added.
APM National Chairman Yusuf Dantalle urged committee members to work together despite differences to secure victory in 2027. He remarked, “Our ability to manage our differences will show Nigerians that we can manage Nigeria.”
In his acceptance speech, Hyat noted the importance of his role and argued that the South should conclude its eight years in the presidency, underlining Makinde as the right candidate for the second term. He urged all Nigerians, particularly the youth, to reject divisive sentiments when making political choices.
Makinde appointed Hyat as Director-General of the campaign management committee on September 30, with other notable appointments including former Minister Hajia Inna Ciroma as Deputy Director-General for Administration and various directors overseeing operations, finance, and outreach.
