Freetown, 6th November 2026 – Robert Kondema Kargbo, Deputy National Chairman of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP), and Dr. Ibrahim Bangura, an aspiring flagbearer for the All People’s Congress, took part in a cemetery cleaning event organised by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and local volunteers at Regent Community. The initiative aimed to honour the deceased and promote a clean environment for residents.
The event showcased community collaboration, with volunteers pitching in to maintain the cemetery. Kargbo praised the community’s involvement, stressing that unity is essential for tackling local issues. He announced a future project to build a perimeter fence around the cemetery, which will start next year to prevent waste dumping.
“We’re asking each household to contribute,” he stated. Kargbo expressed his appreciation for the community’s enthusiasm and highlighted the need for ongoing efforts for cemetery upkeep. He hopes to establish a monthly cleaning schedule involving local residents.
Dr. Bangura, who mobilised his team to support the initiative, echoed Kargbo’s sentiments on shared responsibility for maintaining the site and urged residents to take part in future clean-up activities. He expressed satisfaction in being involved and committed to supporting efforts to enhance the cemetery’s condition.
The participation of these political figures, alongside church and community members, illustrates the power of cooperation across political and religious divides in addressing local concerns.
