DAR ES SALAAM: Dr Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, the Permanent Secretary of the Treasury, has reaffirmed the government’s dedication to enhancing public financial management systems as it embarks on the seventh phase of the Public Financial Management Reform Programme (PFMRP).
Dr Mwamba highlighted the programme’s significant achievements in improving the management of government finances, increasing accountability, efficiency, and transparency. An important development has been the launch of the National e-Procurement System of Tanzania (NeST), which has streamlined procurement processes and improved value for money in public spending.
She also noted that the number of registered taxpayers has risen sharply, from 1.6 million in 2023 to 2.5 million by June 2026, significantly boosting tax revenue collection capabilities for the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) through initiatives like door-to-door tax collection campaigns.
Further achievements include the approval of the 2025 National Supply Chain Management Policy, the construction of a new Ministry of Finance building in Geita Region to enhance service delivery, and the integration of non-tax revenue systems into the TAUSI platform for Local Government Authorities.
