Como has made history in the UEFA Champions League by recording the largest winning margin ever, demolishing Lens 9-1 in their Matchday 4 clash on Tuesday night. This victory matches Liverpool’s 8-0 win against Beşiktaş in 2007 and Real Madrid’s 8-0 triumph over Malmö in 2015.
The Italian side’s impressive performance saw Tasos Douvikas score a hat-trick, with six other players also getting on the scoresheet. Como’s nine-goal feat also marks them as the second team, after Bayern Munich, to score nine goals in a single Champions League match.
Liverpool first achieved an eight-goal win in the 2007/08 group stage, with Yossi Benayoun scoring three goals and captain Steven Gerrard rounding off the scoring.
Real Madrid replicated this feat in December 2015, when Cristiano Ronaldo bagged four goals against Malmö, setting an individual group-stage record of 11 goals.
Additionally, Bayern Munich holds the recent record for the most goals scored in a single Champions League match, winning 9-2 against GNK Dinamo on 17 September 2024, with Harry Kane netting four times.
