Melania Trump has announced a ceasefire for the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky, where around 2,000 residents are facing starvation amid ongoing conflict. According to the White House, Russia has agreed to halt military operations in the area to allow humanitarian aid to enter and to facilitate civilian evacuations through a designated safe passage.
The ceasefire is set to commence on 29 October. Melania Trump described the situation as “dire,” stating that the remaining population, predominantly elderly residents, urgently requires medical care, food, and clean water. She noted the lack of electricity and regular military attacks on the city, emphasising that her intervention was crucial for delivering aid and enabling evacuations.
The announcement coincides with reports from Donald Trump claiming SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has restored Starlink access for Ukraine, despite Ukrainian officials indicating no changes in satellite internet connectivity.
US President Joe Biden refrained from confirming whether he had contacted Musk about restoring the service, stating only that “he put it back.”
