The Sierra Leone Employers Federation (SLEF) visited the Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Umaru Napoleon Koroma, on Thursday, 2 October 2026, to discuss key issues impacting employers and workers.
During the meeting in Freetown, members of the SLEF executive and senior officials from the Ministry, including the Commissioner of Labour, gathered to enhance cooperation within the labour sector. The Commissioner opened the meeting, allowing SLEF to introduce its executive and outline its role in Sierra Leone’s tripartite labour system.
SLEF Vice Chairman Tamba Allieu Kokobay congratulated the Minister on his appointment and expressed gratitude for the meeting. He noted that SLEF has worked to boost its visibility and better represent employers nationally.
Kokobay stressed the importance of collaboration among employers, workers, and the Government in tackling challenges within the labour sector. “We are here to introduce ourselves and show that we’re ready to work with you. You can call on us at any time,” he said. He assured the Minister of SLEF’s support in addressing employment matters and fostering constructive dialogue between employers and employees.
The Vice Chairman also highlighted the Federation’s achievements, including a fully operational secretariat and enhanced participation in both national and international labour discussions.
In his response, Minister Koroma welcomed the SLEF delegation and appreciated their contribution to Sierra Leone’s labour scene. He emphasised his commitment to strengthening collaboration with all stakeholders to ensure effective implementation of the country’s labour laws, especially the Employment Act.
His comments reaffirmed the significance of the tripartite relationship among the Government, employers, and workers in addressing labour issues and improving workplace relations in Sierra Leone.
