The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dissolved its State Working Committee in Kano with immediate effect. The announcement was made in a letter dated 24 September 2026, signed by the party’s National Organising Secretary, Hon. Umar M. Bature, addressed to the state chairman.
The letter clarified that the dissolution pertains only to the state executive, while the ward and local government committees will remain unchanged. “The entire PDP State Working Committee (SWC) for Kano State chaired by Dr Bello Gambo Bichi is hereby dissolved effective from the date of this letter,” it read.
The North-West Caretaker Committee will oversee the Kano chapter until a new executive is elected. In response to the decision, the ousted chairman, Dr Bello Gambo Bichi, expressed his acceptance of the decision as a necessary sacrifice for party unity. He indicated that the dissolution was part of a reconciliation effort, mentioning that former governorship candidate, Muhammad Bello Dalhatu, had agreed to step aside for Muhammad Sani Abacha.
Bichi noted that one of Dalhatu’s conditions for supporting Abacha was the dissolution of the state executive. He stated that the North-West working committee will manage Kano activities until a new caretaker is appointed or new executives are elected. “We did this in the best interest of the party because we believe that Mohammad Abacha will be a stronger PDP candidate in Kano,” he added.
