Sierra Leone Hotel: Unexpected Move To West Africa
Dori Massey-Turay never imagined herself living in Sierra Leone. Before meeting her husband, she had barely heard of the country—and much of what she did hear was negative. Even after learning that he owned a hotel there, Stafford Lodge in Freetown initially felt more like an interesting part of his story than something that would eventually reshape her own life. She had no intention of relocating, running a hotel, or building a future in Sierra Leone. Her journey is a reminder that reconnecting with the continent does not always begin with a lifelong dream. Sometimes perspective changes through relationships, lived experience, and finally seeing a place beyond the narratives you were originally given.
