The Ogun State Police Command has pledged to ensure the security of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) personnel and facilities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Commissioner of Police CP Bode Ojajuni made this promise during a visit to INEC’s Ogun office on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, where he met with Resident Electoral Commissioner Mrs Feyijimi Saseyi in Abeokuta.
Ojajuni toured the INEC premises and discussed security arrangements to support a peaceful election process, stressing the importance of collaboration between the police and the electoral body. He stated, “From now until the end of the 2027 General Elections, the INEC office will become our second office.”
Security measures will include intelligence-led policing, early threat assessments, and coordinated personnel deployment to protect electoral officials and materials. Ojajuni emphasised that operations would be carried out impartially and legally.
The commissioner also highlighted a previous security workshop in Abeokuta that included input from INEC and other stakeholders aimed at enhancing electoral security coordination.
In response, Saseyi expressed gratitude for the police support and affirmed INEC’s commitment to ensuring credible elections. “We will be open, transparent, and committed to this assignment so that we achieve free, fair, and credible elections,” she said.
Ojajuni urged political parties and stakeholders to adhere to the law, avoid violence, and respect the electoral process, while encouraging residents to report security concerns and refrain from spreading unverified information.
The command reiterated its dedication to working alongside INEC and other security agencies to foster public safety and a peaceful electoral environment, urging citizens to reject electoral violence and support democratic institutions ahead of the upcoming elections.
