The Enugu State Police Command has secured the conviction of Ejike Nnam, a 34-year-old man, for phone theft. He received a three-year sentence for conspiracy and a five-year sentence for robbery, with both terms to run concurrently.
The details were shared on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe, via the command’s official Facebook page. According to the statement, Nnam was arrested on October 8, 2026, after allegedly snatching an iPhone XR worth 240,000 naira from a woman in Enugu, with an accomplice still at large. He was charged the next day in the Enugu North Magistrate Court, where he pleaded guilty.
In a separate incident, Richard Chukwuma, 29, was taken into custody on October 7 while allegedly attempting to steal a bottle of Jameson Green Whisky, valued at 30,150 naira, from a supermarket in Enugu. During questioning, he admitted to previously stealing 15 bottles of the same whisky. He appeared in court on October 9 and was remanded at the Enugu Correctional Centre.
Police Commissioner Mamman Bitrus Giwa praised the Chief Magistrate for the swift justice in Nnam’s case and emphasised the importance of timely court proceedings in maintaining public trust in the legal system and aiding crime prevention.
