Arusha: Neema Lugangira has taken office as the District Commissioner of Arumeru and pledged to enhance security, resolve land disputes, and improve social services to foster development in the region.
Speaking on Friday, 9th October 2026, she outlined her priorities, which include promoting environmental cleanliness, supervising development projects, and ensuring responsible use of public funds.
Ms Lugangira emphasised the importance of resolving land conflicts and maintaining peace to create a supportive environment for economic growth. She stated, “My intention is to ensure that Meru District grows economically and developmentally, with security guaranteed and land disputes resolved.”
She also urged the district to contribute to Tanzania’s Development Vision 2050, aiming to establish a 1 trillion US dollar economy. Her vision for Arumeru includes creating an attractive destination for investment, with high-quality services and sustainable development.
“I want an Arumeru of opportunities, a district that investors and stakeholders are eager to visit,” she said. Her strategy focuses on raising the district’s profile globally, accelerating development, and enhancing community engagement.
In a bid to connect with residents directly, Ms Lugangira plans to visit each ward over the next two months, stating, “I want to understand the actual situation and hear residents’ challenges first-hand.”
She also encouraged residents to protect their district and work together with local and international partners to attract investment.
Furthermore, she highlighted the need for accountability in public spending, noting that both the Arusha and Meru District Councils have received commendable audit reports from the Controller and Auditor General.
