The Cybertruck garnered 146,000 orders during its development, Elon Musk revealed in 2019, despite an initial mishap. Launched in 2023, the vehicle features a distinctive angular design crafted from stainless steel.
However, in 2025, Tesla sold only 20,237 Cybertrucks, a significant drop from 38,965 the previous year, as reported by Kelley Blue Book. Musk had anticipated annual sales of 250,000 following the start of production.
Fans have praised the Cybertruck’s retro-futuristic aesthetics, likening it to something “straight out of Blade Runner.” Critics, however, have mocked its appearance, branding it as “ugly as sin.”
The launch has been marred by multiple recalls, including one in 2025 that affected over 46,000 vehicles due to concerns about loose trim.
Pricing also remains an issue. Musk noted the importance of affordability, but the Cybertruck’s price peaked at $61,000 (£48,000) for the fully equipped model. The upcoming “Cyberbeast” version is expected to cost $102,000.
