Tanzania’s national women’s golf team has received government support ahead of the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) taking place from November 2 to 7 at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, Nigeria. Officials and sponsors are optimistic about the squad’s chances of securing their first continental title.

The team departed for Abuja yesterday to participate in the prestigious tournament. During the flag-off ceremony in Dar es Salaam on Friday, National Sports Council (NSC) Sports Officer Petro Chalula encouraged the players to strive for excellence. “We wish our heroines the very best. Stay united, perform your best on the course, and return home victorious,” he said.

Chalula reiterated the government’s commitment to sports development under President Samia Suluhu Hassan, especially through funding infrastructure and supporting athletes. He commended the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) and sponsors for their roles in making the trip possible. The team features three players: captain Madina Hussein, Hawa Wanyeche, and Neema Olomi, managed by Ayne Magombe.

Tanzania aims to clinch its first AACT title after finishing as runners-up in 2010 and 2018. The team placed fifth at the last championship in Morocco.

TLGU President Timea Chogo expressed gratitude to the NSC, CRDB Bank, Kago Logistics, Tanzania Breweries Limited (TBL), and other supporters, emphasising the players’ responsibility to enhance the country’s legacy in the sport.

Gilman Kasiga, Chairman of the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), also conveyed confidence in the team, stating, “Today is a good day as our golf team travels. The squad is complete, and I am certain they will return with victory. Our ladies will make us proud.”

Team Manager Magombe echoed this sentiment, highlighting the players’ experience and readiness for the challenge. “Our team consists of skilled players who are well-prepared and eager to compete for the trophy,” she remarked.

Kago Africa Limited General Manager Sherebanoo Moiz expressed pride in supporting the national team, reflecting the company’s commitment to the principles of discipline, leadership, and excellence fostered through sport.
