Pauline Hanson criticises ‘hypocrites’ over early access to superannuation
One Nation leader, Pauline Hanson, has called for Australians to gain early access to their superannuation funds to help pay for rent or mortgage payments. At a press conference, she highlighted the struggles many are facing to keep a roof over their heads and stressed, “It is their money.”
Hanson also denounced Treasurer Jim Chalmers and his staff as “hypocrites” for having access to 3% of their super, while regular citizens do not.
However, the Superannuation Members Council has warned that a typical 30-year-old opting into this plan could lose $25,000 by retirement. This shortfall could increase the government’s burden on age pensions, with previous COVID-related withdrawals costing taxpayers up to $85 billion by the end of the century.
